If you’ve read our page at all, you have seen that I call myself a lifestyle entrepreneur. But, what is that…really? By definition, a lifestyle entrepreneur is an individual who creates a business for the purpose of changing their lifestyle instead of making profits. This type of entrepreneur usually wants to create a business because they are passionate about it and they believe that it will be personally rewarding for them.
Now, that is a very distinct definition, and being the creative type that I am, I fall somewhere slightly left-of-center of that definition because I do like to make a buck or two. But, Mark Twain…in my humble opinion…put this notion into words better than anyone when he said
Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life
I agree. I agree 100%.
Now, I am an 80’s brat…raised under the paradigm that you need to find a job that can make you money. Period. ICK. That may sound like it comes with bells, whistles and all the dollar signs in theory, but in the late 80’s, I was just not into web coding and all that flotsam. I mean, I could make a killer pixel smiley face in my Computer Math class, but I was certainly not on the MIT fasttrack, if you know what I mean. I rocked at Algebra…but that is where it began and ended.
As I was leaving for college, my Dad pleaded with me to “lean toward computers”…and I exited stage left with earphones on and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun blasting in my eardrums. Computers. You’re cute, Dad.
Creative is where I always wanted to be. Period. And that is where I landed. My personal and professional journey led me down many creative paths, but in staying true to my heart and soul…passion…if you will, I truly love my work…and it shows in every project I commence.
What does that mean for you, though? Ironic as it may seem…if you love what you do, you’ll simply make more money, anyway. Why? Because the love you have for what you do pays forward to the customers you serve, and they feel good about it, you feel good about it, and the world’s better for it.
